| Fernando was born the youngest of four brothers in the South
American Andes. Raised by his mother - a fashion manufacturing designer - he
remembers his early schooling as being fun. |
 Fernando |
"Every class was an opportunity to draw all kinds of topics. It
worked well for his art classes (where he received top scores), but the
material in the other classes was somewhat lost on him. "Painting and drawing
were in my blood and forced their way to the white surface," he explains. "I
would get most thrilled when my head started to feel like it spun in every
direction trying to produce just the right visual impression." |
| As early as age seven, Fernando would tirelessly wander the
museums, absorbing the displayed works and committing them to memory. When he
would come back home, he would then try to reproduce what he had seen, thereby
learning techniques that enabled such art. His attempts were remarkably
successful. In 1968, he was offered to sell one of the replica he had brought
to the museum to compare to the original. It looked like a faithful print.
While he was principally inspired by the great artists of the European
Renaissance, he quickly developed his own style and continued his development
as an self-taught artist. |

At age
sixteen, Fernando began producing a variety of works for a living: portraits,
landscapes, murals, poster, book covers and movie billboards. "I felt the need
to explore all the avenues that presented themselves to me, to be a
Jack-of-all-trades," he remembers. He found pleasure in accepting never-
before-attempted challenges, to the point of life-threatening situations. In
addition, he did not limit himself to just solo productions. Group productions
were welcome outlets for his creativity.
After some time, our artist decided to try to market
his talent in the U.S.A. Soon after his arrival, he went to visit Disneyland
and actually asked Mickey himself (his childhood pal) for a suggestion as to
where to show his portfolio. It worked: He was pointed in the right direction,
and quickly made effective contacts. "I was initially offered small parts of
various productions, " Fernando recalls, "but the breadth of my experience
would often allow me to eventually take over projects and produce them
entirely. That resulted in considerable savings for clients. Finding work was
never a problem: I'd find myself working simultaneously on four different
projects at times. "The theme park industry was a fertile ground for his
creative juices; he designed (among other things) a dinosaur walkthrough ride
("The Last Dinosaur Kingdom"), a boat ride ("The Amazon Adventure"), and an
intergalactic battle show in a dark setting ("Star Patrol"). While he prepared
and directed artistic designs, he found himself working with engineers,
architects, sculptors, illustrators, backdrop painters and so forth. A complete
production from concept to final production would involve the creation of
various views (plan views, perspective views, front views etc.) stage designs,
backdrops and scenery, vehicles of all sorts, and animatronic figures.
Today, Fernando
is aiming his multifaceted talents and energies at fusing the traditional easel
with the latest digital technologies. "This is what I always wanted to do," he
explains, "exploring this endles creativity with a sense of purpose."
Today, Fernando
is aiming his multifaceted talents and energies at painting his series of
images "Healing Gardens", as a healing therapy. "It's basically a reflection on
how the environment has made an impact to the American public on all kind of
illness: Cancer, arthritis, lupus, diabetes, and the list goes on an on, due in
great part to the men-made industrial complex society. "Studies I had made
on Dr. Roger Ulrich, Gary Null, Ph.D. and Samuel S. Epstein, M.D., indicate
that images can, in fact alter a person's mental state and well being. Art of
"The Healing Gardens" has a physiological relaxation, relief of anxiety and
pain, which results is indicated by a reduction of blood pressure, heart rate
and better memory. This tranquil imagery has made dramatic improvements to the
mind during times of intense stress".

men." Solomon (C.E. 716) |
